Exhibition Dates: February 16- March 9, 2013
Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 6pm

Modern Eden is pleased to announce “Bound”, a solo exhibition by Archer Dougherty. This new series of drawings and paintings explores the meanings and associations of the word, “Bound”. Through Dougherty’s colorful and imaginative works, the viewer is faced with what ties us to places, people, and things. While investigating these ideas, the artist found herself digging deeper into the concept and “Bound” became an unexpected journey of growth.

Archer Dougherty grew up in Albuquerque, and studied every single medium but painting at the University of New Mexico. She took as much drawing as she could but her figurative tendencies were not popular with the generational abstract professors, and consequently she was never encouraged in her development as a draftsperson. Drawing was a means to an end, not a finished product of itself. She finished school with a degree in three-dimensional media. Archer is currently hard at work developing her long overdue figurative training and painting techniques, while drawing and painting for shows across the globe.

In conjunction with “Bound”, “Venice”, an international group exhibition will be debuting in the back gallery space. Venice, Italy is a city like no other on earth with its canals, baroque architecture, and fabled history. From the early Venetian artists Titian, Bellini and Canaletto to later artists like Whistler, Monet and Sargeant, Venice has been a constant muse and inspiration. Idealized and romanticized in art and literature, traveled and adored by countless millions, Venice continues to inspire to this day. The grand decaying architecture, the reflections off the grand canal, the dramatic horrors of the Carnival and the colorful delights of the sinking city all define an otherworldly place, a place of macabre intentions, where imagination fills in the blanks of what is possible.

Featuring newly inspired works from Melissa Hartley, Shawn Kawa, Jaclyn Alderete, Zofia Bogusz, Sandra Yagi, Thea Saks, Steven Suiter, Lara Dann, Cory Benhatzel, Emilio Villalba, Bradley Platz, Lauren May, Henry Schreiber, Redd Walitzki, Helen Bayly, Debra Gardner Abarca, Mike Bell, Erica Calardo, Derek Harrison, Cayetano Valenzuela, Melanie Alves, Amy Minchew, Natalia Pierandrei, Kenneth Burris, Larisa Voynova, Kim Larson, Kurtis Rykovich, and Daisy Church.

The opening reception for “Bound” and “Venice” will be held at Modern Eden Gallery on Saturday, February 16th from 6-10pm. The exhibition will be on display through March 9, 2013 and is free and open to the public. Complimentary beverages will be served by Three Wishes and Rolling Rock. There will be live music provided by Brendan Johnson during the opening. Featured artist, Archer Dougherty and select group show artists will be in attendance.
