Artist Robert Piersanti casts pin-up models in a colorful light, with sharp black lines accenting brilliantly hued portraits. From heavily tattooed to rollerskate-clad, his subjects take on a life of their own on canvas. Retro relics share center stage in his creations, with throwbacks to the past that include vinyl records, comic books, and hot rods.
Originally an illustrator, his work has been featured in New York Magazine as well as CD packaging and book covers. The siren song of creating pop art proved too great, and Piersanti found himself celebrating his love of rock ‘n roll and its decadent pleasures through acrylic paint professionally.
Piersanti typically sources models from his neighborhood in Jersey City, New Jersey. “This keeps the work personal with original voice,” Piersanti told the Jersey Journal. “I like to portray the people and times we live in, with a nod to our past.”
Piersanti’s work has been featured in art shows from New York City to Milan, Italy. His bold approach blurs the border of kitschy 60’s appeal and playfully flirtatious fantasy, allowing art enthusiasts from all walks of life to appreciate his style and subject matter.
