Childrens’ Workshop Series Introduces Kids to Photography, Movie Making, Drawing, and More
Jersey City, New Jersey

Jersey City Alley Arts will be hosting a Winter Open House event for children and their parents on Sunday, December 15 between noon and 4:00pm.  The event is free to the public, and will feature a series of mini-workshops for children to explore  Alley Arts’ available programs in their upcoming season.

Alley Arts is a new after school visual arts program in downtown Jersey City, located in the alley way between Coles and Monmouth and Third and Fourth Streets. Experienced art educators guide students with workshops designed to explore the realm of visuals art and strengthen expressiveness and creativity.  Workshop programs are intentionally designed to accept a limited number of students, allowing for more individual attention and a personal environment for children to grow in their art education.

The Holiday Open House will include complimentary hands-on tutorials that serve as a short introduction to Alley Arts’ upcoming sessions. Activities will include:

– Movie Making Tutorial with independent documentary filmmaker Charlie Steiner, geared towards ages 12 to 18.  All equipment is provided, and participants will get a taste of filmmaking basics.

– Photography Tutorial with visual artist Leona Strassberg Steiner, designed for children ages 10 and up.  Bring a digital camera or phone and learn photography lighting basics.

– Introduction to Still Life Drawing with painter Steven Singer.  Children will learn drawing basics using pencil.  Pencil and paper are provided.

– TAG Interactive Art Game with painter Mollie Thonneson.  TAG is an immersive game for ages 7 and up that introduces children to color and form.

Parents will have the opportunity to pre-register for upcoming sessions at the Winter Open House and will receive a discounted program.  Six-week sessions will be available during the fall, spring, and summer seasons. Courses will include: Movie Making, Photography, Alley Arts Explorers, and Gardening and Sustainability. For more info on workshop schedule and class registration, please visit
