We get bunches of questions from people about the site everyday. To make life a bit easier, we’ve condensed all of the Frequently Asked Questions here into this FAQ. Enjoy this stimulating reading…
“Who is Ladder & Key?”
Ladder and Key was founded by artist Christopher Priority.
“Is Ladder & Key a brick and mortar place?”
Ladder & Key exists as a digital venue showcasing artworks, in the collective spirit of art, in whatever form it takes, for the love of artistic expression. So no its like just a website.
“Why do some of the older 10 point profiles read Onefive4gallery on the top left?”
Ladder & Key is built on the bones of our original poorly named site Onefive4gallery (established in the year of our lord 2010). Onefive4Gallery was made to showcase one persons artwork, mine. It quickly became evident that no one was looking at it! To build an audience we began to include other people’s work, posts about shows, interviews with artists and gallery owners. The viewership grew and the focus changed to spotlighting on the worldwide art scene. But the name always felt too arcane and evidently pretty unmemorable. We were often mistaken for a variation of names Gallery145, 15Gallery etc etc. 6 years of it got really annoying. Mid 2016 bored of the previous layout and tired of the old name we dumped it, ported over all the past info and here we are. As you look through older posts and interviews you’ll see the old name scattered about. Another website would have maybe not used the old stuff. Its good stuff though, that’s why its still included here. We are really proud of the past work we’ve done and look forward to the new things we will find and share with you all as Ladder & Key.
“How do you get the artists to take part in the interviews?”
We have had many submit their work but more often we see something by someone we reach out and ask them. We don’t really chase people though. You in then you in, you not then thank you and good luck no hard feelings.
“Can I submit my work to be considered for an interview or post about my show?”
Sure go for it! Send us a link to your work or show listing and maybe we’ll feature it. We like to post about shows 2 to 3 days in advance. Primarily we are shooting for an over 18 adult demographic here but be considerate the internet is still kinda a family show. Please use your best judgement when submitting & don’t be all salty if we do not use your content.
“Do you represent any of the artists involved?”
NO. We interview people, we post about shows that look interesting but we do NOT rep anyone that you see on the site. Some people have been very cool, we have been blessed with their involvement, some have been kinda shitty…we don’t support them anymore.
“Can we send you press releases and passes to shows?”
Yes. We are always looking for more content and appreciate access to it.
“Why no reviews?”
We are more interested in spotlighting people and their shows. Not judging. Suffice it to say though that if its on here we like it and feel it’s well worth you looking at. Will we say That show sucked and that artist is an ass…only in private.
“What’s The List?”
The List is a new ongoing feature that consists of links to People we like & Stuff we like in no particular order its just a list we have come up with unsolicited by those included. Also see second sentence in the above answer for more inference.
